My vision My blog #5

We have learned a lot in the past few weeks. I am looking forward to taking a lot of this with me to school. I see the kids loving implementing this into their work. I see everyday that the more technology students learn the more in tune they are with learning in this day and age. We not only need to implement it but we need to share it with others.

My Vision My Blog #4

This has been an interesting week. I am writing this post from the Mirage hotel in Las Vegas. It has been a busy summer I. Class on monday went well. I enjoyed learning from other blogs. I had already had experience with publisher. I enjoyed working on the interactive power point. I am definatly going to use that in my website. I have done some interactive power points before but it had been a while. It is always good to brush up. The timeline software as also a great piece of advice.

Bariers will always be in education. I do want to be a 21st century teacher and I know that will take some work in this day in age. I am willing to learn the software and hardware and mold my lessons. It is fighting perceptions and school policy that will be the biggest hurdle. I think educating people with what works is the best way to get through to people. If everyone understood how technology could be used in the classroom it would be more acceptable. I have a hard time believing that my principal wouldn't be on board if I could demonstrate the advantages of using a specific technology, especially if it was free.

Google Sketchup

Google sketchup is a free online tool that lets you work in 3D. It is a great introduction to understanding concepts of basic views and 3D tools.

Here is a video that shows the basics of what google sketchup does.

My Vision My Blog #3

First and foremost the technology we have covered over the past three weeks has been eye opening. I consider myself a computer teacher and didn't have an idea of how much I still don't know. I find myself wrapped up in to much commercial software that I teach and learning the ends and outs then I do with the variety of software that we have been exposed to already.

Integrating Technology into the classroom

I would love to integrate a lot of what we learned into the classroom.

I will start with google pages. I would love a class website and a club website. I want the students to be able to show off what they are doing in class. I would also love the parents to be able to follow their curriculum and what they are learning everyday. My club needs a place to organize projects and competition information. They also need to be able to post pictures and awards they have one for all their hard work. Google pages would be an easy software to teach my students and an easy way to accomplish all that I want.

I would also like to work with blogs. I would love to have each student create a blog as a class journal. I would love to require a weekly posting of what we are doing in class and what they have learning so far. They can also post pictures of things they have created or drawing in class. It would give their parents a good way to follow what we are doing in class. I also think the students would love to learn this technology. It is a way for them to post their own stuff for their friends.

Delicious is a great tool that I will be using in for my own personal use in the classroom. It will be an organizational tool for me to list the students websites they visit and use throughout the year. They will be able to reference them any time they need them.

I think just about all of the technology tools we have used in class this summer have place in the classroom.

My vision my blog #2

We start off with another crazy week. I just flew in from California this afternoon. Makes for a long week.

Educational Technology Organizations Computer Using Educators (CUE)
http://www.cue.org/

Cue is an organization supporting educators using technology for achievement from all disciplines through all grade levels.

They communicate using technology to give you ideas. They meet for conferences providing learning opportunities and offer ample technology support online through publications, workshops, video and many other medias.

It is a place where educators can get ample ideas and learning opportunities to use technology in the classroom.

International Technology Education Association (ITEA)

I felt this fit me because of what I teach. I use technology and teach technology. Both are very important in the education of our you Youth.

ITEA offers ideas and lessons for you to use on their website. It is a resource for the the technology education teacher. It is an information hub for Technology Education. ITEA also provides a publication and offer multiple workshops throughout the year providing a chance to further your education.

ITEA also provides the opportunity to network. It allow you to connect and talk to other teachers through communities and facebook. It allows you to share ideas and connect to those around you. It provides a great resource for questions to furthering your career.

Map IT

It really opens up your eyes when you actually get specific examples of those trying to deceive us on the web. It really shows how important research knowledge is. Verifying sources becomes as important as ever when using education. The mapit activity gives some great examples of stuff high school teachers can use in class to help educate students. If we start teaching information literacy at a young age and preach through their education then it can just become a staple of their knowledge and not something that is dropped on them all at once.

WEB 2.0

Really cool video. It ties really well into both information literacy and our portfolios. I liked the comment that we are the web. We control what is put on the Internet and we have to determine what is literate. Hyperlinking is something that needs to be used more in education as we teach our students that the Internet is a resource to research and to publish. It has unlimited possibilities.

My first blog
Posting #1
My name is Creighton Bryan and I am currently working towards my masters degree in Educational Technology. I currently teach computer aided drafting at South Garland High School. I just finished my third year teaching.
I am taking this class to help further my education and open up possibilities for me within education in either the field of technology or CATE, career and technology. I see myself as a career and technolgy coordinator or a district technology head.
My educational technology philosiphy takes willon a d take on a dual meaning throughout the class. Not only do I use technology to teach and help reiterate learning. I also teach technology to prepare kids for the future. Just as this class is teaching us the importance of using technology in the workforce, I am also preparing students to exceed in the workforce through learning technology.
Educational technology is using all available technology sources to engage students in learning, help them retain what they learn, faciliatate what they learn and make them life long learners in education.
I would love to learn more about blogging and hosting my schools own webpage. Specific to school technology goals this summer, I want to learn to transfer Revit house files to Autodesk Viz to create cutting edge walkthroughs and renderings.
I would love to use either a blog or a class web page to keep both students or parents updated with whats going on in class. I could post our competition highlights and display good work.
The barriers that exist are just taking the time and finding the resources to use that allow me to do so. I also need to go through people above me to get things approved.
My main technology skill I use in class have to do with CAD. I develop and build both 3D representations of houses and engineering parts. I am always happy to share what I know.
